Frequently Asked Questions

What does the pocket trainer score?

Timing, not just pitch. Each lesson plays drums and keys after a one-bar count-in and shows the bass part as a 16-step grid and TAB. With your bass on an audio interface, every note you play is placed against the beat in milliseconds: early, late or in the pocket. The meter shows the last note and your running average; the pass ends with a histogram, a consistency figure and a verdict such as “12 ms behind the kick”.

Can I use the pocket trainer without an audio interface?

Yes. Without an interface the lesson still plays as a backing track and the grid follows the beat, so you can play along on your own bass; nothing is scored. Demo mode lets you tap the on-screen neck through the same pitch detector to see how the scoring works.

Which timing lessons are included?

Lock with the kick, eighth notes on the hi-hat, the reggae one-drop, the “and” of two, swing versus straight, behind/on/ahead pocket feels, ghost notes as timekeeping and landing chord changes with the keys. Each loops a short original backing from the riff library or a simple drum and chord sketch; none is a transcription of a recording.

How is the latency of my interface handled?

Measure it once: the trainer plays eight clicks, you pluck on each, and the median delay becomes a correction that every scored note is shifted by. The value is stored in your browser and shared with the live trainer.
